Rev. Al Jacobson, 74, of Rapid City, died Friday, July 23, 2010, at a local nursing home. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on September 10, 1935. As a young man he served in the naval reserve. He attended the University of Minnesota for two years and later graduated from Concordia University, St. Paul, Minnesota. He entered Concordia Seminary in Springfield, Illinois, and while there served a summer vicarage in Forsyth and Red Lodge, Montana, plus a one year vicarage in Cleveland,Ohio. Upon his graduation from the seminary he was ordained in his home congregation in Osseo, Minnesota. He moved to South Dakota and was installed as pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, Winner, and Redeemer Lutheran Church, Clearfield. He later served Trinity Lutheran Church, Edinburg, Illinois, and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Rochester, Illinois. In September 1975 he was installed as pastor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Rapid City, and in March 1989 joined the staff at Trinity Lutheran Church, Rapid City, where he remained until his death. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Jacobson, two daughters, Jeannette Obernolte (Todd), Apple Valley, Minnesota, Michelle Goodgion (Bill), Rapid City, two sons, Tim Jacobson (Kaarin), Broomfield, Colorado, James Jacobson and George Singer, Los Angeles, California, two sisters, Carol Steere, New Hope, Minnesota, Lolly Jakobsen, Minneapolis, Minnesota, three brothers, Dennis Jacobson, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Lee Swanson, Blaine, Minnesota, Bruce Stansil, Racine, Wisconsin, three grandchildren, Tyler Goodgion, Rachel Goodgion, Rapid City, Sarah Jacobson, Broomfield, Colorado and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Annette. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, Rapid City. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Rapid City, with Rev. Wilbur Holz and Dr. LeRoy Flagstad officiating. Burial will be at Pine Lawn Memorial Park. Memorials have been established for Trinity Lutheran Church Radio Broadcast.
