LAFAYETTE, LA - Alex Ryan Sargeant, 23, passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2023.  Alex is survived by his parents, Jonathan Sargeant and Shannon Coburn, his brother, Christopher Sargeant and sister, Megan Sargeant.  He also leaves behind his grandparents; James and Linda Buckneberg, Edward and Brenda Coburn and Mary Renka, his aunts and uncles, Heather Coburn, Apostolos Gliarmis and Neil and Melanie Sargeant as well as other loving family members and friends.

Born on Leap day of 2000, Alex grew up in Rapid City and graduated from Central High. During his high school years, he rose through the ranks of JROTC and enjoyed his time working at Rush Mountain.

Alex was a hands-on young man, always up for a new adventure. Given this and his love of the ocean, after graduating he packed up and moved halfway across the country to Seattle to attend the Divers Institute of Technology. In 2019, he completed his certification in commercial diving and set off again, this time to Louisiana, to begin his career. After a brief stint with EPIC, he joined the company Aqueos, for whom he worked for the next three years. During this time, Alex earned a multitude of specialized certifications in his field including Emergency Medical Technician and Diver Medical Technician.

Alex was a voracious reader, devouring books on a vast variety of subjects. Additionally, he loved games of all sorts, from cards with family to online gaming with friends. He loved sushi, animals, the ocean, and the open road.

Alex lived a lot of life while he was with us, and we send all our love with him as he moves on to his next adventure.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.  A celebration of life will follow on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
