Alexander Vucurevich, 86, died April 12 , 2008 at his home in Rapid City. He was born August 1921 in Lead to Trivko and Anna (Ignatic) Vucurevich. Alex was raised in Lead graduating from Lead High School. He attended a year at the University of Nebraska prior to entering the Navy in July of 1942. His Navy service included time on the USS Tuscaloosa participating in the Invasion of Normandy and was on the USS Sante Fe during the bombardment and capture of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Upon discharge in February of 1946 he returned to the University of Nebraska, graduating with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration in 1949. Alex moved to the Los Angeles area, working in the aerospace industry, moving to Rapid City in 1971. During his time in California, he met and married Mara Milojevic in Alhambra, Ca. on May 21, 1967. In Rapid City, Alex was active in residential real estate. He was a member of Toastmasters International, the Cosmopolitan Club, and at the time of his death was still a member of the Masonic Lodge, A.F. & A.M., Comandrry #9, NAJA Shriners and Emmanuel Episcopal Church. His friends and family enjoyed his sense of humor. Alex never regretted returning home to the Black Hills. Survivors include his wife Mara Vucurevich, Rapid City, 2 daughters Anna Jenkins, and her husband Chris, San Francisco and Diana Vucurevich, Denver, CO., a brother Milan Vucurevich, Los Angeles, CA Nephews; Thomas Vucurevich and his wife Claudia, Rapid City and Donald Vucurevich, Kawi, HI, nieces; Barbara Kral, San Marino, CA and Susan Rule, Colorado Springs, CO A memorial has been established by the family. Visitation will be from 5:00pm until 7:00pm, Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. His casket will not be open at the church. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Rapid City with Rev. Richard Ressler and Canon David Seger officiating. Interment will be in the Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors provided by VFW Rushmore Post 1273, Rapid City.
