IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alexander "Alex"
Imberi
February 2, 1932 – August 2, 2023
Alexander Imberi, of Rapid City SD formerly of Mobridge passed away at Monument Hospital on August 2, 2023, with his loving family and wife by his side. He will be missed and remembered.
Alex was born on February 2, 1932 in Hillsview SD to John & Helen (Martian) Imberi. He was the first of 11 children. He was raised on the family farm in Hillsview SD until the age of 16 when the family moved to the farm near Glencross SD.
Alex was working at the Homestake Gold mine before being drafted into the Army on April 10, 1953.
Alex married the first love of his life, Jean Voegele, on April 04, 1956. They had 7 children. Some of his favorite times were camping trips in Yellowstone and the Black Hills with the family, dancing with his wife, and filming many family events. One of his passions was researching all the waterways in North America.
Not only could he do just about everything that a man with 2 legs could do, he did it well. He loved to fix things, anything. He built a garden tractor with all of the attachments (which he used to plow many gardens in Mobridge), a three wheel cart he drove back and forth to work, pontoon boats and a working miniature threshing machine.
Alex was a true German with all the traits – great work ethic, stubbornness and determination. On the other side of this, he was so much fun and he loved to dance. He was the family historian. Even though he only had an 8th grade education, he was self-educated and very intelligent.
When Alex started school, he could speak no English and his teacher could speak no German. He learned quickly and his 8th grade teacher wanted him to go on to High School but his dad needed him on the farm.
He enjoyed conversations with his Grandfather Marcus Imberi. Alex learned family history and life experiences which he remembered and passed on to his siblings and children.
Alex met and married his second love, Lynda Jacquot (Gorball) in 1998. He was a little overwhelmed at the new large family he gained – 9 children who were very much a part of their life from the start. Most of their travels were either with their families or visiting them. The highlight of their travels was to Italy with his eldest daughter, Debbie. There he visited his old Army camp, Camp Darby. It was there in 1953 that he lost his leg in a motor scooter accident. He spent over a year at Walter Reed Hospital having 3 amputations during that time. He spent time at Fitzsimmons Hospital in Denver also. His sister Marcella moved to Denver to help with his care. He was fitted with a prosthetic and wore the same type all of his life, never having confidence in the more modern ones that came along.
He is survived by his wife Lynda, 4 children: Debbie Long, Brenda Imberi, Sandi Ioakimi and John Imberi, 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Step children: Tim Jacquot, Dave (Lori) Jacquot, Jim (Delana) Jacquot, Debbie Hendricks, Bill (Carlene) Jacquot, Julie (Jeff) Smith, Brenda (Kyle) Lynch, Bryan (Kayla) Jacquot, Jenni (Nick) DeVries. 19 step-grandchildren. 24 step-great grandchildren, one step-great-great grandchild. Siblings; Cecilia Hepper, Martha Gibson, Margaret (Larry) Taylor, Katherine Knudson, Beverly (Jerome) Kramer, Althea (Bill) Herman, Joann (Dale) Dietrich and Larry (Sandy) Imberi.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jean (Voegele), his daughter Laura (Bob) Oyler, sons David Imberi and Michael (Kelly) Imberi, a grandson Ross Imberi, son in law Jerry Long. Siblings; Marcella Kraft, Balzer Imberi.
