Obituary

Rapid City Alfred "Andy" Anderson passed away and joined the lord in heaven on August 15th 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer at the Rapid City Regional Hospital. Andy was born on January 16, 1950 to Ronald and Susan Anderson in Freeport Long Island, New York. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1968 and immediately joined the United States Air Force where he proudly served from 1968 to 1980. He then joined the Pennington County Sheriff's Office in 1980 where he faithfully served the members of this community for 21yrs. He touched many lives in this capacity while he served as a liaison officer to the Douglas School System and taught as a DARE officer for many years. His true and great passion always was children and animals as he and his family have fostered children, many of whom where either physically or mentally challenged, through child care services over the years. He showed his appreciation and passion for fellowship through cooking and his cheerful demeanor. Always good humored, he was quite known for his witty personality and ability to make light of difficult situations. He was preceded in death by his father Ronald Anderson, his mother Susan Anderson and his sister Susie Anderson. He is survived by his wife Jamie Anderson, Hill City, Daughter Rachel & Rodney Schaub, Rapid City, Daughter Lisa Anderson-Pelton & Bruce Pelton, Hill City, Son Michael & Sharon Anderson, Wall, Son Daniel & Kirby Anderson, Rapid City, 15 grandchildren, and four sisters: Mary [Jimmy] Cullum of East Meadow, NY, Ronalda [John] Highbridge of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Theresa [Mike] May of Lake Worth, FL and Bernadette [Bob] Grosbeck of Jupiter, FL., and numerous nieces and nephews. Andy will be missed by many and loved by all. Andy was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church, life long member of the Fraternal Order of Police and a member of the South Dakota Sheriffs Association. Visitation will be Sunday August 22 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Boulevard, with a Wake and Rosary Service at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, August 23 at 10:00 am at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 520 Cathedral Drive, with Father Rev. William Zandri as celebrant. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery with Military Honors by the Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and South Dakota National Guard.
