Alice S. Brekhus, 97, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, and went to heaven where he husband, Milo, has been waiting for her since his passing on May 14, 1994. Alice Sierth was born May 28, 1917, in Rapid City to Peter Jacob and Esther (Ferguson) Sierth. She resided on the ranch east of Hermosa with her two sisters, Evelyn and Fern and went to school in Hermosa. After elementary and high school, Alice attended Chadron (Neb.) State College and while attending met the love of her life, Milo J. Brekhus. They were united in marriage on April 19, 1938, in Plankinton, SD. To this union three children were born, Barbara, Jim and Phil. Alice and Milo resided in Rapid City for nearly all their adult lives, except for a brief stint in California from 1958-1960. After Milo passed away Alice continued to live at the Broadmoor Townhomes for 6-½ years until 2001, when she moved to an apartment at Westhills Village. She had been a resident there until her passing. Alice is survived by her children, Barbara Allen, Basalt, CO, and Jim and Phil Brekhus, both of Rapid City. She was preceded in death by her husband; her two sisters, Evelyn and Fern; her parents and in-laws. No formal funeral services will be held. A private family gathering to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, Oct. 25, at the cemetery.
