Obituary

RAPID CITY, SOUTH DAKOTA--Alice Zalatan Durbin, 84, died in Rapid City, SD nursing home on Tuesday, March 17, 2009. Allice Zalatan was born on January 13, 1925, in Utica to Anthony and Jamielle (Hallack) Zalatan. She grew up in Utica and graduated from High School there. Her family ran Zalatan Brothers Grocery for many years. After high school she worked as a civil servant at Griffith Air Base near Rome She married Richard F. Durbin in May of 1953. Richard was in the Air Force, and they were stationed in several bases, including California, Turkey, Florida, Oklahoma and Colorado Springs. He retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1968. They lived in Colorado Springs after his retirement. Richard passed away in 1978. Alice sold Avon for nearly 20 years and was a member of Divine Redeemer Parish. She enjoyed walking in her neighborhood as well. Alice continued to live in Colorado Springs until she moved to Rapid City in 2007 to be close to her daughter. Survivors include her daughter, Janet and Dr. Mark Blum, Sturgis, SD; a son, Richard Durbin, Highlands Ranch, CO; 2 brothers, Sam and George Zalatan and 3 sisters, Helen Ayoub, Mary Nogas and Betty Zalatan, all of Utica and 2 grandchildren, Stacy and Katie Durbin, both of Ft. Collins, CO. She was preceded death by her parents; her husband and 2 brothers, Louis and Edward. Services will be at 2:15 p.m. on Friday, March 20, at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
