Alice Marie (Laurilla) Schad passed away November 20, 2021 at Westhills Village Nursing Home. Alice was born June 25, 1930 to Toivo and Anna Laurilla in Richland Township, SD. The family moved off the family farm to Frederick, SD in 1946. She graduated from Frederick High School in 1948 and went on to marry John Karjalainen that same year. Alice moved to Aberdeen, SD, where she attended Northern State Teachers College. Then on November 21, 1962 she married Calvin S. Schad, DO and moved to Rapid City, SD. At this time, she gained four step-children, Jacqueline, Roxanne, Mark and Patricia. Alice worked for many years for South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks. She enjoyed golfing, where she even won a trophy at the Tomahawk Ladies Handicap Championship. She spent many hours flower gardening and watching birds. Alice was also quiet the artist and won some ribbons for some of her paintings. Her favorite pastime, however, was going on many hunting adventures with her loving husband Calvin.

She is preceded in death by her husband Calvin S. Schad, DO; parents Toivo Laurilla and Anna Kotila, step-father Oscar Kotila; sister Helen Meza; brother Tom Laurilla; step-brothers Nels Kotila, George Kotila, Earl Kotila and Martin Kotila; and step-sisters Linnea Engstrom, Della Erickson and Impie Olson, and grandson Adam Schad.

She is survived by her step-children Jacqueline Schad, Medford, OR; Roxanne (DeWayne) Brink, Houlton, ME; Mark (Marina) Schad, The Villiages, FL; Patricia (Tom) Donovan, Black Hawk, SD; 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 4:00pm until 6:00pm on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

Services will be at 10:00am on Monday, November 29 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, followed by interment at Pine Lawn Memorial Park.
