Alice Patricia "Pat" Tomovick
Surrounded by family and friends, our beloved mother passed away on August 26th at the Dorsett Healthcare Center in Spearfish. She will be missed.
Pat was born to Lawrence and Elizabeth Jacobson in Minneapolis, Minnesota on March 17th, 1924. At ten years of age, her family moved to Evanston, Illinois where her father worked as a civil engineer and her mother a homemaker. In 1950 her father retired and moved to family property in the Stratobowl, building a home beside Spring Creek. Eventually, from 1985 until 2012, she also resided in this home.
From 1965 until 1985, she lived, with her family and previous husband George, in Rapid City, Arkansas, Colorado, and then for twenty years, in California. She and George divorced in 2006 after 53 years of marriage.
Pat always wore a smile on her face and loved to dance, walk and paint. She also loved the Stratobowl, its history and beauty and made sure her family legacy was preserved. She never passed up an opportunity to walk in nature, visit with friends or jump in a hot air balloon for a ride.
She is survived by her beloved sons, Ken and Larry, her two grandchildren, Lynne Loverich of Rapid City and David Tomovick of West Plains, Missouri, and a great grandson, Benjamin Loverich of Rapid City.
She loved to tell jokes and one of her favorites was "What did the mother skunk say to the baby skunk? Let us spray."
In her final years she found a wonderful companion, Steve Bowles. They could be found dancing on Friday nights at Holiday Hills Estates, or simply walking – hands held, enjoying their time together.
We will miss our beloved mother and GGM (Great Grand Mother) and her beautiful smile. In the final year she came back to the Stratobowl to live. Almost every day she took a one-mile walk up the road to enjoy the fresh air and changing seasons. We estimated that the miles she had walked in her lifetime to be around 45,000. That is almost twice around the world.
As per her wish, her remains will be cremated and buried beside her parents in the Rockerville Cemetery. A Celebration of Pat's Life will be planned for later this fall. The family requests no gifts, but asks that those who knew her take time to walk in the woods and celebrate life and the beauty of nature. If you wish to share a story of a moment you spent with Pat, please do. Go onto Facebook (Ken's) or go to the Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home website: http://www.osheimschmidt.com.
