RAPID CITY- Allen B. Neal, 80, passed away Monday, October, 18, 2021 in Rapid City, SD. He was born in Gering, NE on March 18, 1941, to Alva B. and Bernice (Johns) Neal. He graduated from high school in Melbeta, NE.
While attending college in Greeley CO, he met the love of his life, Glenda Waters. They were married, March 17, 1962 in Monte Vista, CO. They had the privilege of raising three outstanding sons; Clint (Kim) of Pembroke Pines, FL, Scott (Jill) of Sisters, OR, and Eric (Dawn) Neal of Rapid City, SD. They have six grandchildren: Cody, Caleb, Aaron, Lacey, Royce, and Mercedes Neal and one great granddaughter Amari Moore. He is also survived by a sister, Iris Elaine Neeley, Alliance, NE
Allen taught school at Fort Lupton, CO and Ten Sleep, WY for four years after receiving his B. A. After teaching, Allen embarked on a career with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). During his flying days he held an ATP-ASMEL and CFI-Instrument-ASMEL along with several type ratings.
Allen's career with the FAA took him all over the country. From Minneapolis MN, Denver CO, Grand Junction CO, Helena MT, Casper WY, Kansas City MO and finally to Rapid City SD where he retired in 2000. During his long career with the FAA, he worked as a Flight Service Specialist, Employee Development Specialist/Pilot, Aviation Safety Inspector, Accident Prevention Specialist, and an Accident Investigator. Each of these jobs he not only took seriously, but also executed them with great pride. Flying was not only a career but was truly a passion for Allen.
Family and aviation were the most important things in his life. He will be missed by all people he touched during his 80 short years on this earth.
Memorial visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
