Obituary

Rapid City - Alma Holub, 91, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at her home. Alma Barbara Kahler was born November 19, 1922 at Carlock, South Dakota to Paul and Amelia [Kaiser] Kahler. She attended school and graduated from Burke High School in 1940. She married Arthur J. Holub on May 13, 1944 at Winner, South Dakota. In 1949 they moved to Lead, SD and the following year they moved to Rapid City. During her working career she was a bookkeeper for several organizations and businesses in Rapid City including the Rapid City Public Schools, Jerry McGuire Insurance, Larkin and Jones Appliance Company and various CPA groups. Alma was a devoted member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rapid City and loved to make lap quilts for the church to give to people in need. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. Alma is survived by her son: Dennis Holub of Rapid City; one brother: Arthur [Ruby] Kahler of Sioux City, Iowa; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death in 1999 by her husband, Arthur Holub, who was a Rapid City fireman. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Amelia Kahler; one brother: Henry [Joyce] Kahler; and three sisters: Lillian Juran, Audrey [Stan] Fisher, and Irene Smith. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Monday, March 24 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 910 Wood Avenue with Rev. Samuel Bobby officiating with visitation starting at the church at 10:00 am. Burial will be at 2:00 pm at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
