Obituary

Aloysius "Al" A. Holzer, 84, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2017 at Rapid City Regional Hospital surrounded by his family.

He was born June 21, 1932 on the family farm west of Strasburg, ND to Adam & Katherina (Feist) Holzer. On October 1, 1956, he married Bernice Mastel at St. Aloysius Church, rural Hague. They farmed west of Strasburg, ND until moving to Rapid City, SD in October, 1964. You rarely saw Aloys without Bernice. Together they spent most Saturday nights dancing to their favorite German music at the Moose Lodge. They also enjoyed visiting and playing cards with family and friends. They were self-employed in the janitorial business.  Aloys was a man who could accomplish all things; a Jack of All Trades. His favorite subject in school was arithmetic and he sat for hours helping his children with their homework. Upon retiring, his goal was to complete many home projects for him and his family but then became an avid golfer!! He was always available for his family but golf became a passion. On August 18, 2003, he made a "hole in one" on hole #7, a 152 yard, par 3 on his home course, Hart Ranch Golf Course.

Survivors include his children, Al Jr. (Donette), Donna (Duane) Edlund, Victor (Dawn), Carol Buckingham and Wayne (Kim); son-in-law, Dana Nelson; twentyone grandchildren, Desiree Dillavou, Tiffany Nelson, Cristen Truax, Tara Clayton, Ryan Holzer, Lindsey Campbell, Rachel Holzer, Cassi O'Cull, Matt Edlund, Amanda Edlund, Adam Holzer, Tyler Holzer, Nicholas Holzer, Alyssa Kohl, Miranda Buckingham, Garrett Buckingham, Jace Holzer, Caden Holzer, Cole Holzer, Jadeyn Holzer, and Grayce Holzer; fifteen great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Ramona Heidrich, Rose Wickenheiser, Lillian Schwahn, Alvina Goldade, and Kathy Masset; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Jochim and Irene Meier and brother-in law, John Mastel.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice; a daughter, Bernadette Nelson; an infant daughter, Alice; an infant grandson, Dana; and a sister, Hildegard.

Our Dad is loved by so many and is "the rock" of his family….he is truly and dearly missed.
