IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alta Irene
Wade
January 6, 1930 – September 23, 2025
Alta Wade, 95, of Rapid City, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Alta was born in Lane, South Dakota, to James and Mayme Rogers. During her childhood, the family moved to Wessington Springs, where she grew up and later graduated from Wessington Springs High School. She continued her education at business school in Mitchell, South Dakota.
In 1950, Alta married the love of her life, Dorin "Dick" Wade. Although the two had known each other for years as classmates in Wessington Springs, it wasn't until their senior year of high school that their friendship blossomed into a romance. Their marriage became a lifelong partnership built on devotion, laughter, and love.
Shortly after their wedding, Dick was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps and they lived in Hawaii during the Korean War. After the war, Atla and Dick moved back to South Dakota and eventually settled in Rapid City.
Alta was known for her sense of humor, kindness, adventurous spirit, and deep devotion to her family and friends. She lived life with energy and joy, embracing activities that brought loved ones together. She loved snow and water skiing, biking, traveling, and any adventure that included her family. A lifelong learner and creative spirit, she was also an avid reader and found joy in knitting and crafts.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dick Wade, her parents, James and Mayme Rogers, and her brothers, Leo and Ralph Rogers. She is survived by her children: her son Brad Wade and his wife Barbara and their children Dana Wade (Trever) and Julie Picht (Jordan) and great grandchildren Vivian and Russell; her daughter Carla Brown and her husband Mark, and their children Wade Brown (Erin) and Ellen Dingle (Jeremy) and great grandchild Sutton; and Susan Wade and her husband David Conrod and their son John. Alta will be lovingly remembered by her family as a guiding presence whose love and laughter shaped their lives.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to West Hills Village Foundation, 255 Texas Street, Rapid City, SD 57701, in memory of Alta Wade.
Alta's funeral service will take place on October 1, 2025, at 11 am at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 1200 Clark Street, Rapid City, SD.
The Burial Service will be at 2:30 pm at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.
