Obituary

Alvin Ashley Howe, age 74, of Rapid City, SD was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday May 29, 2014. Alvin was born in Flandreau, SD on July 16, 1939. Growing up, he attended several schools. He was proud of the years he spent active in the YCL and his local church in Madison SD. Throughout the years, he worked many different types of jobs, but always returned to his passion of owning and operating his own trucks. Earlier in life, Alvin owned Howe Grain and Supply and most recently owned and operated Howe Co. where he hauled dirt and gravel. He spent his days delivering to numerous road projects, housing developments, and other projects around the Black Hills area. Alvin also developed and built Little Jon Memorial Park in memory of his grandson. Alvin was fond of saying 2 things - he enjoyed talking and working - and he didn't get much work done. Anyone who knew Alvin knew he was a hard worker, but always had time to stop and tell a story. He had a knack for making a short story long. Due to an injury flying ultra-lights Alvin was limited in his mobility, but never limited in his desire to try something new. In his free time, Alvin loved reading, playing Spider on his computer, and watching his grandchildren. Grateful for sharing his life are his wife Jean Howe of Rapid City, six daughters - Kandi (jim) Werner of Montrose SD, Delain (Jon) Damm of Trent SD, Tambra Andarge of Sioux Falls SD, Misty (Dean) Harrison of Rapid City SD, Bobbi Ann (David) Morrison of Yuca Valley CA, and Annette (Muhammid) Abusharh of Des Moines IA, one son - Charles (Lorie) Howe of Trent SD, two sisters - Marjorie Howe of Madison SD, and Sandy (Bob) Dean of Hartford SD, two brother-in-laws - Ron (Denise)Anderson of Brandon SD and Richard (Jane)Donaldson of Rapid City SD, sister-in-law - Judy Howe, several nieces and nephews, 28 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Ella Mae (Kohler) Howe, one brother - James (Dick/Jim) Howe, a son - Mark Howe, a grandson - Jonathan Howe, and a granddaughter - Danielle Howe. Alvin will be sorely missed as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and mentor to many. May the Lord watch over us all. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm on Monday, June 2, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Services will be at 11 am on Tuesday, June 3, at Black Hawk Community Church with the Rev. Ken Fairbanks officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Lawn Memorial Park in Rapid City.
