Rapid City Alyce E. Murphy, 86, Rapid City, died Monday, January 18, at a local nursing home. She was born January 8, 1924 in Los Angeles, California, to August Gus and Otilla (Bronner)-Schweder. She lived in Torrance, California until 2002. Alice loved her family very much, she was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She liked reading, traveling and playing Yahtzee for hours. Alyce and her husband were very active with the Torrance YMCA until her husbands death in 1996. Alyce moved to Rapid City in 2002 to be closer to granddaughter, Cheryl and her family. Survivors include her son, Richard Murph Murphy and his wife Annette, Fountain Hills, Az; a granddaughter, Cheryl Catalano and her husband Dennis, Rapid City; two great grandchildren, Megan Catalano and Samantha Sloat and her husband Andy; a great great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Nelsen; four additional grandchildren; seven additional great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Jack Murphy; a son, Tom Murphy; her parents; two sisters, Tillie Marlett, Erna Moran and two brothers, Roy Schweder and August Schweder. Upon her request the body has been cremated and no services are planned.
