RAPID CITY | Alys Andora (Hanson) Matt, 96, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019, surrounded by her family.

Alys was born July 17, 1922, to Adolph and Anna (Amundson) Hanson on her grandparents' farm north of Holmquist, SD.

In 1927, the family moved to the homestead near Boneita Springs in Meade County, SD. Alys attended rural school at Boneita Springs. After completing eighth grade, she went to high school in Rapid City. Upon graduating, Alys attended Black Hills Teacher's College in Spearfish, receiving a two-year teaching permit. She taught three years in rural Meade County.

Alys married Julius Severin Matt on Jan. 18, 1952, at Trinity Lutheran Church. They had five children. Later, she worked for the Rapid City School District in the kitchen for 11 years. She and her husband were members of Trinity Lutheran Church where they babysat in the nursery and did custodial work for many years. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her children, Carolyn (Mike) Shaheen, Verlyn Matt, David (Nazzy) Matt, and Kristine (Jerry) Boeding; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, two sisters in law and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 55 years, Julius; son, Alynn; daughter-in-law, Carol (Verlyn); sister, Sara (Oien) Uthe; and infant brother, Clifford.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, March 4, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery.
