Obituary

RAPID CITY Andrew J. Goeden Sr., 77, died June 14, 2011 at Fort Meade V.A. Hospice Facility. He was born in Dallas, SD, April 12, 1934 and lived on a farm near Paxton. He joined the Army and served in Korea where he earned a Bronze Star. After being discharged, he later owned and operated a drive-in restaurant in ONeill, Neb. for over 13 years. He married Dorothy Fern Pinnt in May of 1960, and had a son, Andrew (Junior) Goeden. He eventually earned his Journeymans Electricians License and worked at Ellsworth Air Force Base for 25 years until his retirement in 1997. He enjoyed spending many weekends at his cabin at the lake along with making fishing trips to Canada with his friends. He especially loved his dog, Tiki. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, Rapid City; one son: Andrew Junior Goeden, Rapid City; one granddaughter, Alyssa Goeden; and one great-granddaughter, Mackenzie, one brother: Joseph (Shirley) Goeden, Broken Bow, NE; two sisters: Mary Wackel and Irene Fox, both of Rapid City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph & Mathilda Goeden, three brother:, Othmar, Emil, and Adolph; and three sisters: Polly, Elsie, and Dorothy. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, at St. Therese Catholic Church with Rev. William Zandri presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors provided by VFW Post 1273 and the South Dakota National Guard. A memorial has been established to RCRH Hospice of the Hills.
