RAPID CITY | Andrew R. Yamada, MD, was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on August 6, 1940 and died Nov. 15, 2018, in Rapid City.

He graduated from Hilo High School in Hilo, HI, and Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. He went on to earn his medical degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in 1965.

Dr. Yamada served in the United States Air Force from 1966-1972. After his military service, he and his young family moved from California to South Dakota, where he served the Rapid City community for 30 years practicing urology.

He is survived by a son, Kyle (Holly) Yamada and a daughter, Kory Yamada, all of Rapid City; two stepsons, Michael (Kristi) Main and Randy (Kathy) Main, all of San Pedro, CA; two grandchildren, Jaden and Kaelyn; a sister, Jean (John) Isaacson, Kona, HI; and two brothers, Michael (Lois) Yamada, Carlsbad, CA, and Patrick (Diane) Yamada, Las Vegas, NV. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Donna Yamada; his parents, Nobuo and Junko Yamada; and a brother, Richard.

A visitation and viewing will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

Celebration of Life memorial services, with military honors will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18, at the Dahl Fine Arts Center. Inurnment of his ashes will take place at a future date in Ranchos Palos Verdes, CA.
