Obituary

Ann was born on October 14, 1942, at Queen of Angels Hospital in Los Angeles, California, to Russell Stephen Ehret and Helen Frances Ehret.  She spent her early years in Boyle Heights with her mother while her father served in World War II.  In 1949, her family moved to Alhambra, California, where Ann lived until 1965.  She attended All Souls and San Gabriel Mission High schools and graduated from Cal State Los Angeles in 1964.  In 1966, Ann was hired to be a member of the founding faculty of Glen A. Wilson High School in Hacienda Heights, California.  She was a business teacher and Business Department chairperson for 40 years, retiring in 2005.  The school honored her teaching excellence and compassion by naming the Business Department building the "Ann Ehret Hobler Business Building".   Ms. Ehret (as she was known in her early career) was also the shotput expert on campus.  On January 18, 1975, Ann had her first date with her husband to be, Michael Hobler.  Mike and Ann were married at All Souls Church in Alhambra, California, on July 16, 1977, by Father Royale Vadakin.  Michael worked at a Navy Research Lab in San Diego, retiring in 2006.  They never had children of their own, but Ann always remarked she had 9000 kids (her students.) For 20 years Ann would take students on trips to Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.  It was one of her passions along with football, crocheting, reading, and watching television.  Ann would want all to know that her cousin, Bill Vinovich, is an NFL referee (#52.) Mike and Ann split their time between South Dakota and California for the last 18 years.  Ann is survived by her husband Michael, Rapid City, SD; sister Mary (Fred) Ortiz, San Dimas, CA; brother Stephen (Carol) Ehret, Ventura, CA; brother-in-law David Hobler, Santa Rosa, CA; step brother-in-law Paul (Ann) Turbiville, Belle Fourche, SD; step sister-in-law Susan Bassett (Gene), Carlsbad, NM; her "football" cousin Bob Shannon, Long Beach, CA; her many cousins, nieces, and nephews.  Ann passed away peacefully on Valentine's Day, February 14, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital Heart Institute, Minneapolis, MN, with her husband, sister, and brother at her bedside. Ann was the most caring, giving, understanding, and strong-willed person you would ever meet and love.
