RAPID CITY- Anna Marie (Zacher) Simpson passed quietly on October 23, 2019.
She was born the 14 th of 15 children born to Anton and Katherina Zacher in Eagle Butte, SD on June 6, 1930. She attended all 8 grades in a 1 room schoolhouse while living on the farm in Eagle Butte. She and her parents moved into town in 1944, and she graduated from Eagle Butte High School in 1948. In August of that year she moved to Rapid City and worked for her room and board while attending National School of Business. Ann met the love of her life and married Harold Simpson on September 3 rd , 1949. They called Rapid City their home; with occasional extended vacations to Texas; until their deaths. Harold passed away in January of 2007, and Ann wore his gold wedding ring as a testament of her love and devotion to him until her last breath.
Ann had a career as a secretary and retired from Civil Service in 1988 after working several positions with the federal government. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was blessed to have most of them living close by. She enjoyed crafting and making afghans for her family. She loved angels, butterflies and roses. She was active in the community as a volunteer and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas since 1962.
She is survived by her sons: Benjamin, Belle Fourche; Edward (Deborah), Spearfish, daughters: Susan (Phillip) Bechard, Black Hawk; Sharon Simpson, Rapid City; Sandra (Orwin) Axdahl, Box Elder; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and all 10 brothers and 4 sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
