IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Annabelle
Shaw
September 22, 1922 – July 11, 2016
Rapid City – Annabelle "Ann" [Leavitt] Shaw, 93, died Monday, July 11, 2016 at the Morningstar Assisted Living Center after a long and happy life.
Annabelle "Ann" Leavitt Shaw was born September 22, 1922 to Walter and Dora Leavitt. She was educated in Nebraska and South Dakota rural schools. Ann married Chester Shaw in 1941. They ranched on the Pine Ridge Reservation until Chet joined the United States Army in 1944. After Chet's honorable discharge from the Army they returned to ranching until they moved to Rapid City, SD where Ann attended beauty school. Ann had a beauty shop in her home from 1968 until 1986.
Ann sang the "golden oldies" and did volunteer work after Chet's death in 2005. Ann loved gardening and preserving when they lived in their home, and when she moved into an apartment she stayed busy visiting with all her neighbors. She was very active in the Canyon Lake Methodist Church and enjoyed volunteering there. She and Chet were avid walkers and stayed fit as long as they were able. Ann was loved wherever she lived. She always had a quick smile and kind words for anyone she was in contact with.
Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, four brothers, and four sisters.
She is survived by two sisters: Mabel Allison of Hot Springs and Agnes Ford of Sturgis, Kentucky and numerous nieces and nephews, and very special friends LeRoy and Peggy Olesen.
Visitation will be from 9:00 – 10:00 am Thursday, July 14 and funeral service at 10:00 am all at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with Rev. Holly Sortland officiating.
Burial will follow at 11:30 am at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
