Rapid City – Anne W. Barlow, 84, died Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Westhills Village in Rapid City.
Anne Eldora Woodbury was born September 14, 1933 in Campton, New Hampshire, to Scott and Evelyn (Marchand) Woodbury. She grew up in North Woodstock, NH. She attended the University of New Hampshire in Durham, graduating in 1955 with degree in medical technology. While doing an internship at Mary Hitchcock Hospital, in Hanover, NH, she met John Ford Barlow, who was a student at Dartmouth Medical school.
John and Anne were married June 8, 1957 in North Woodstock, NH and then moved to Boston, MA where John completed his medical education at Harvard Medical School. After graduating, John and Anne moved to Cooperstown, NY, where John did his medical internship. They returned to Boston for John's medical residency in Pathology. During this time, Anne worked as a medical technologist. After completing the medical residency, the couple moved to Fayetteville, NC, where John did his military service at Fort Bragg with United States Army. John and Anne moved to Sioux Falls in 1965 and there she raised two daughters. During her years in Sioux Falls, Anne was active in the 4-H Club with horses and horseback riding and later worked as a real estate broker for Century 21 Realty. John and Anne moved to Rapid City in 1984, where Anne continued to work in real estate.
Anne was involved with the medical auxiliary both in Sioux Falls and Rapid City. She was the business manager for 4077th T.R.A.S.H., a local singing group comprised of women in the medical community, who performed benefit concerts in support of of USD medical student scholarships. Anne became an active member of the local chapter of Democracy in Action [DIA] and was also very involved with the Black Hills Children's Home and was on the Board of Directors for several years. Anne and John were very active with both the Black Hills Community Theater and Black Hills Playhouse.
Survivors include her husband: Dr. John F. Barlow of Rapid City; two daughters: Deborah (Gus) Smedstad of West Roxbury, MA and Karen (Wallace) Boulineaux of Vienna, VA; three grandchildren: Christina, Scott, Julianne; and two brothers: Raymond (Rose) Woodbury of Albuquerque, NM and Robert Woodbury of White Haven, PA.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents, step-father: Felix Gallant, and one brother Eugene.
Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
Burial of ashes will take place at Mountain View Cemetery in Rapid City, SD.
In Lieu of flowers the family wishes memorials be directed to the Scholarship Fund for Medical Students and sent to the Rapid City Regional Foundation.
