Obituary

Annice Elizabeth Hook, age 102, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at the Monument Health Hospice House.

Annice was born on January 31, 1923, in Sturgis, Kentucky, to Roland and Catherine (Carter) Dorris. She attended school in Clarksville, Tennessee, graduated from high school in Fargo, North Dakota, and later attended business college. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Hook. The couple were married on January 10, 1944, in Columbus, Ohio.

Following Bob's return from World War II, they made their home in Spring Lake Park, Minnesota, and later Plymouth, Minnesota. In 1961, they purchased the Pearl Spring Water Company and moved to Huron, South Dakota. Two years later, in 1963, they relocated to Aberdeen, South Dakota, where Bob was employed by Hyman Freightways.

Ann began working at Tempo in Aberdeen in 1963 and later worked at Mrs. Blow's Sewing Center from 1964 to 1965. In 1966, she started her own business, Del-Ann's Sewing and Alterations, where she created custom drapes, wedding dresses, and provided sewing lessons. Due to declining eyesight, Ann eventually closed her sewing business and transitioned into interior decorating. She worked for JCPenney and later Herberger's in Aberdeen.

In 1979, Bob and Ann purchased Roush Moving and Storage, along with Mt. Rushmore Movers in Rapid City, South Dakota. Together with their sons, Ron, Tom and Terry, they successfully operated the businesses for the next 24 years until Ann's retirement. The businesses remain family-owned and operated to this day.

In addition to raising her family and working alongside her husband, Ann was actively involved in her community. She served as Past President and Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Aberdeen. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile, the First United Methodist Church, the Black Hills Humane Society in Rapid City, the Rapid City Elks Lodge #1187, and the International Association of Turtles (to which she proudly proclaimed, "You bet your sweet ass I am!").

Ann was a devoted Minnesota sports fan. She rarely missed a Minnesota Twins game, proudly watching from her 75-inch TV whenever they were on. Football Sundays were especially sacred, filled with enthusiastic "SKOL" chants as she cheered on the Vikings.

Ann remained active and engaged well into her 90s. She enjoyed taking organ lessons, participating in water aerobics, and spending time with friends at "the corner" whenever possible. She also enjoyed trying her luck at the machines, whether in Las Vegas or at the Valley.

Animals were always near Ann, especially dogs. She found great joy in their companionship and loyalty.

Ann is survived by her children, Ron, Tom (Rhonda), Terry, and Kathy; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Bob Hook.

A matriarch is defined as a highly respected woman who is the head or founding figure of a family or community, often someone who holds influence and authority because of her age and wisdom. Ann embodied all these characteristics. She has loved us well and we are blessed to have been part of her life.

A memorial has been established in Ann's honor to the Humane Society and the Eastern Star.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church—a date that would have been Bob and Ann's 82nd wedding anniversary.
