IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Anthony L.
Black
May 23, 1961 – May 17, 2017
Anthony (Tony) Luke Black, of Rapid City SD, died in the Hospice House of the Black Hills surrounded by his daughter, on May 17th 2017. He was 55 years old.
Tony was born on May 23, 1961, in Rapid City SD, to Robert and Jacqueline Black in Rapid City SD. Tony was the youngest of 4 children (Stephen, Leann, and Christopher). Growing up, Tony lived in Huron SD, and spent time in the Black Hills with his Grandmother (Gladys Brown) and Grandfather (Fred Brown). As a child, Tony and his brother Christopher Black, were inseparable. The two spent countless days playing Batman and Robin, going on frequent adventures, and tormenting their older sister, Leann on their grandparent's ranch in Rockerville, SD.
When Tony was in his mid- twenties, he became a part of Black Hills Works, where he eventually began working for Nash Finch. Tony went on to happily work at Nash Finch for over 20 years.
While working at the Federal Building at the age of 25, Tony met the love of his life, Mindy (Hoar). On March 24th, 1987, Tony and Mindy were married in Rapid City in the presence of Tony's mother, Jackie. One year following their marriage, they birthed their son, Jonathan Black in the spring of 1988; in the summer of 1991, their youngest child, Jessica Black was born. Tony became a grandfather at the beginning of 2016, when his grandson Sawyer Luke was born.
Tony was best known for his kindness, generosity, and devout faith. Anyone who knew Tony was the likely recipient of a Diet Coke or taco from Taco John's. Tony enthusiastically shared his thoughts on religion. It was not uncommon for Tony to invite the Mormons into his home to talk about God or host Bible discussions for his friends.
Tony also enjoyed the peace and tranquility of taking walks, which he often went on with his best Friend Bruce Lehmann, who Tony knew for over thirty years. Most of all, Tony loved spending time with his family.
In his absence, Tony leaves a legacy of love, bravery, perseverance, and generosity, which live on through his children and grandchildren. The world lost a great man, but heaven gained an angel. Tony Black will be missed.
Survivors include his son, Jonathan L. (Roxy) Black, Seattle, WA and daughter, Jessica A. Black, Rapid City, grandson, Sawyer Black, brothers; Steve Black, and Chris Black, and his sister, Leann Black-Mueller.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mindy in November of 2016 and his parents.
