Rapid City - Arlene J. Bush, 80, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 21, 2014 surrounded by her family at the Rapid City Regional Hospital. She was born in Sturgis, SD on September 17, 1934 to Eugene and Sarah [Young] Johnson. Following her birth she was raised by Earl and Grace Johnson in Rapid City, SD. She graduated from Rapid City High School in 1952. She married Robert Bush in Santa Ana, CA on September 13, 1952. Her husband Bob was in the U.S. Marine Corps and stationed in Santa Ana at that time. They moved back to Rapid City after Bob's discharge in 1953. In 1963 she began working for the Rapid City Public Schools. Arlene worked for 24 years as a secretary at Grandview School and South Junior High School, and then retired in 1987. Bob and Arlene built a retirement home in the Black Hills living near the Rochford Road a mile west of Trout Haven. This was near heaven for Arlene as she enjoyed birding, wildlife, scenery, peaceful solitude, and good neighbors. Arlene was active in the following organizations: PTA, Cub Scouts, Brownies, Little League Baseball, Rapid City Fire Fighter's Auxiliary, Deacon of First Presbyterian and Big Bend Presbyterian Church, Hospice Volunteer, member of Canyon Lake and Minneluzahan Senior Centers, fire fighter with Silver City Volunteer Fire Department, member of Big Bend Presbyterian Church, choir member, member of ladies church circle group, and also a member of the Black Hills Running Club. Arlene enjoyed LIFE and LIVED it to the fullest. SHE was a friend to all. Survivors include her husband: Robert G. Bush of Westhills Village in Rapid City; one daughter: Cheryl Halvorson [Tom] of Overland Park, KS; one son: Robert Bush [Jeannie] of LaCrosse, WI; four grandchildren: Adam Bush [Maran] of Corcoran, MN, Alicia Brzezinski [Curt] of Big Lake, MN, Lauren Halvorson [fiancée Nathan Lane] of Prairie Village, KS, and Kendra Robbins [Spencer] of Olathe, KS; and two great-grandchildren: Hailey Bush of Corcoran, MN and Dylan Brzezinski of Big Lake, MN, and one sister: Helen Bloom of Platteville, WI She was preceded in death by her parents, guardians, and two brothers: Delbert Johnson and Doug Johnson. Visitation will be 10:00 am to 11:00 am Thursday, September 25 at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1012 Soo San Drive followed by the Memorial Service at 11:00 am with Rev. Bob Savot officiating. Burial of cremains will take place at 2:30 pm at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to John T. Vucurevich Cancer Care Institute or Rapid City American Heart Association or Big Bend Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are being directed by Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
