Helen Arlene Smith was born on Jan. 1, 1921, to Myrtle (Sally) Clark and Charles Thomas Smith at Big Sandy, Choteau County, MT, granddaughter of Montana pioneer William Booker Smith and Margaret Night Runner. Arlene grew up in the northern Idaho lead/silver mining district. She spent her young years tramping the mountain hillsides, enjoying cookouts, singing and many other activities with her friends.
She married Theodore Hartman on June 26, 1937, at Moscow, ID. They had four children, Gary, Kenneth, Sandra and Debra.
She married Dennis S. Yohner Sr. on April 22, 1967, in Rapid City. They lived in Martin, Fort Benton, WA, Harvey, ND and Hot Springs, during their 49 years of marriage.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis of Hot Springs; son, Gary (Jeanie Hammill) Hartman of Pierre; daughter, Sandra (Clint) Jolley of Rapid City; stepson, Dennis Jr. (Carol) of Martin; stepdaughter, Shirley Yohner of San Pedro, CA; five grandchildren, Tammi (Terry) Florentz, Pierre, Renee (Harvey) Wald, Pierre, Christopher (Kassandra) Jolley, Rapid City, Jon Jolley, Sioux Falls, and Alexa Jolley, Casper, WY; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted in July 1966; son, Kenneth Hartman at birth; daughter, Debra Hartman Nierling in September 1990; and grandson, Barret Jolley.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at noon at Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis.
