RAPID CITY | Arthur George Becket passed away in Spearfish, SD, on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at the age of 72. Art was born in Belle Fourche, SD, on Dec. 12, 1942. He graduated from Newell High School in 1961 and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Black Hills State College in 1965. He worked as a mechanics assistant, fixed tires for a trucking company, washed dishes at college and worked for 45 years with youth as a teacher, substitute, tutor and mentor in Kenyon, MN, Mission, SD, and Piedmont, SD. He married in Lead, SD, on June 6, 1970. He met his wife singing "Handel's Messiah" in choir at Black Hills State College. He always said the messiah brought her to him. Art enjoyed playing cards, traveling, dancing and playing in the band in grade school, high school and college. He played softball and basketball and was the student manager at Nisland High School. He was a member of the Eagles, Minneluzahan Senior Center, Canyon Lake Senior Center, and a former member of the Lions, Mission Fire Department, Moose, SDEA, NEA and 4H. Art was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Margaret "Mickey" (Loeffen) Becket, his father, George Henry Becket, and his mother, Leona (Callen) Becket, aunts, uncles and cousins. Art is survived by his daughters, Diane (Jeff) Moul of Rapid City, SD; Mary (Casey) Barrett of Caputa, SD; grandchildren Adia, Annalise, and Logan Moul; Whitney, Cassidy, and Carrissa Barrett; and his lady friend Helen Arnold. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Boulevard, Rapid City, SD 57702. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, at Faith Lutheran Church, 17 Indiana Street, Rapid City, SD 57701, with Rev. Herb B. Cleveland officiating. A reception will take place immediately following the service. Burial to follow at Pine Lawn Memorial Park, 4301 Tower Road, Rapid City, SD 57701. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
