Arthur E. Oman, 83, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2011 in Rapid City after a brief illness. Art was born August 3, 1928 - the 8th child of Ida (Halliday) and Roy Oman. He grew up on a farm near Niobrara, NE, and joined the Army as a young man to serve in the Korean War. Art and Iona (Anderson) were united in marriage on May 25, 1952 and lived in Rapid City most of their married lives. They enjoyed traveling together in their camper with the goal of visiting all 50 states. A man of integrity and honor. Art was proud to retire from Montana Dakota Utilities after many years of service. His hobbies included fishing and hunting and he especially enjoyed carving diamond willow canes. Mourning his loss include his son, Greg and Kelly Oman of Rapid City, his daughter, Pam and Doug Ruhnow, of Spearfish, his son, Scott and Mardel Oman of Idaho Falls, ID, a brother, Ted Oman, Lander, WY, a sister, Joan and Leo Zachariasen, The Dalles, OR, 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5 pm to 7 pm on Sunday, August 14, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will be at 10:00 am on Monday, August 15, at Canyon Lake United Methodist Church with the Rev. Eric Grinager officiating. Burial will follow at the Black Hills National Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Canyon Lake United Methodist Church.
