Barbara Derfler, 86, passed away on September 19, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of love, memories, and a family who will forever hold her close in their hearts.

Born on June 26, 1940, Barbara lived a life grounded in family, hard work, and love. She was a devoted mother and grandmother whose presence brought something special to the lives of those around her. Her family was one of the greatest joys of her life, and the love she gave them will continue to live on through the generations.

Barbara worked as a custodian for the University of Nebraska, where she was respected for her dedication, reliability, and strong work ethic. She took pride in her work and carried that same determination and strength into every part of her life.

Barbara was the mother of three children, Randy Hunzeker, Ryan Hunzeker, and Robin Weber. While she experienced the deep sorrow of losing her son Randy, she continued to carry his memory and love with her. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Frank Splittgerber and Freida (Vahl) Splittgerber; her first husband, Larry Hunzeker; and her loving husband, Charles, with whom she shared 15 years of marriage.

Barbara is survived by her son, Ryan Hunzeker, and his wife, Dorene; and her daughter, Robin Weber, and her husband, Paul. She leaves behind eight grandchildren, who brought tremendous joy and love into her life.

To her family, Barbara was more than a mother and grandmother. She was a familiar voice, a loving heart, and a treasured part of their lives. The years they shared with her are filled with moments that will never be forgotten—conversations, laughter, family traditions, celebrations, and the simple everyday moments that become the most precious memories after someone is gone.

Her absence will be deeply felt. There will be days when her family will wish they could hear her voice, sit beside her, or share just one more conversation. Yet in those moments, they will also find comfort in knowing that a part of Barbara will always remain with them—in the stories they tell, the traditions they continue, the lessons she taught them, and the love she gave so freely.

A life is measured not only by the number of years lived, but by the love shared along the way. Barbara gave her family 86 years of memories, and those memories will remain a lasting gift.

Though saying goodbye is never easy, her family can take comfort in knowing that Barbara’s love does not end with her passing. It lives on in her children, her grandchildren, and in every heart she touched.

Barbara will be deeply missed, forever loved, and lovingly remembered.
