RAPID CITY | Barbara Beth (Sankey) Landguth, 71, passed away from breast cancer on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, surrounded by her loving children.
Barbara was born Dec. 14, 1945, in Portland, OR, to Gordon and Roberta Ruth (Leathers) Sankey. Her father served in the military and the family lived in various places throughout the United States. Barb, along with her brothers Joel and Doug, lost their parents in 1963. The children then moved to Pluma, SD, to live with their Uncle Sonny and Aunt Beth Gaughen and cousins Tim, Cass, Mary Lue (Gaughen) Roesler and Becca (Gaughen ) Curry.
Barbara met the love of her life, Daniel P. Landguth, when she started school at Lead High School. Dan and Barb married on April 17, 1965, and began a 44-year love story that included many great adventures together including raising four wonderful children and nine grandchildren.
Barb was an expert at needle point, and enjoyed spending time with her family, many friends from her book clubs, "stitching groups" and her special "Volleyball Girls." She loved her horse and dogs, traveling and shopping. She was known to order her desert first when dining out and loved Coca Cola and Champagne. Barb also enjoyed spending time at her beloved cabin in Spearfish Canyon.
Barb is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Dennis Turner and their children Quentin, Chaz and Garrett, Columbus, OH; her son and daughter-in law, Mark and Carlene Landguth and their children Kale, Quin and Shey; her son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Jennifer Landguth and their children Taylor Sagen, Hailey and Hanna, Rapid City; her daughter, Erin Landguth and, as Barb called him, her Sweetie Zachary Holden, Missoula, MT; her brother and sister-in-law, Joel and Anne Sankey of Maine; and her brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Melody Sankey of Newcastle, WY.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Dan in 2009.
As Barb wanted, there will not be a funeral, but her family will host an Irish style Celebration of Her Life from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, at Arrowhead Country Club.
