Barbara Ruth Ramsey Mefford, 76, Rapid City, Died Thursday, December 18, 2008 at Rapid City Regional Hospital Hospice House after a long battle with Alzheimers disease Barbara was born March 15, 1932 in Bauxite, Arkansas, the daughter of Luke and Mary (Bishop) Ramsey. On May 20, 1952, she married the Rev. Richard Dick Mefford in Bauxite. Their marriage was blessed by a daughter, Michelle Micki on February 17, 1954 and a son, Daniel on December 5, 1961. The Meffords served as missionaries, (SBC), working with the Choctaw Indians in Philadelphia, Mississippi for six years and with the Northern Cheyenne Indians, Lame Deer, Montana for 12 years. She attended Montana State University in Billings, achieving a B.A. in Education with Honors. In 1978, the Meffords moved to Box Elder where Barbara served as a pastors wife at Temple Baptist Church until 2002 when Rev. Mefford retired. During that time, Barbara taught in the Douglas School System, retiring in 1998. Survivors include her husband, Rev.Dick Mefford, Rapid City, her daughter Micki Nenortas and her husband, Rev.Viktor, Birmingham, Alabama, her son Rev. Dan Mefford and his wife, Stephanie, St. Joseph, Missouri; three grandchildren, Nisel Parsons, Clarksville, Tennessee, Joshua Nenortas, deployed with the U.S. Navy and Dana Mefford, St Joseph, MO., her brother, David Ramsey, Benton, AR. and a special niece, Janie Mefford Shaklee, Brighton, CO. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Luke Ramsey. Services will be held, Monday, Dec. 22, 2008 at 10:30A.M. at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Mefford and Rev. Keith McCraw officiating. A time for gathering with the family will be held 1 hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions to Temple Baptist Church of Box Elder.
