Benjamin H. Geary, 83, Rapid City, died Tuesday, April 6, 2011, at Rapid City Regional Hospital. He was born Sept. 15, 1927, at Rapid City, the son of Benjamin F. and Gladys (Harris) Geary. He resided in Rapid City and Deadwood prior to moving with his family to the Black Hills Ordnance Depot at Igloo. He graduated from Provo High School in 1945. Following high school graduation he served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 until 1946. He attended and graduated from the Denver Art Institute and from the University of South Dakota at Vermillion. Benjamin spent most of his life as a sign painter. He traveled extensively throughout the United States working as a "High Rise" sign painter. He was employed for a time with Rosenbaum Sign Co. in Rapid City. Survivors include a brother, David L. Geary, and his wife, Leonne, Rapid City; a nephew, Doug Geary, Rapid City; two nieces, Deb Larson, Rapid City, and Deanna Hooper, Sundance, Wyo.; and several grand-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Philip; and a niece, Darla. Private family services will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
