RAPID CITY Berdena Jacobsen, 83, is at peace with the Lord. She died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, after a long battle with cancer. Birdie, as she was affectionately known to her many friends and adoring family, was born Dec. 24, 1926 in Belle Fourche to Alex and Mildred (Norlin) Anschutz. She attended grade school and high school in Newell and graduated from Rapid City Central High School in 1944. On Oct. 30, 1948 she married her beloved husband, Donald Jacobsen. Birdie and Don moved to Casper, Wyo., where she worked for the accounting firm of Chapin, McNamara & Macy for over 20 years. In 1972, they moved to LaBarge, Wyo., where she and Don owned and operated two businesses, Capitol Drilling and the Eagle Bar. Birdie and Don, along with Dennis Hacklin were inspirational in incorporating the town of LaBarge in the early 70s and were extremely proud of their accomplishments. Birdie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Rapid City as well as a proud member and past president of the LaBarge Chapter of the American Legion Auxiliary. Birdie will be remembered for her patriotism, love of country and dedication to its veterans, and her generous spirit and enthusiastic support of the local schools annual spelling bees. Birdie enjoyed young children and spent many hours volunteering for the local schools and supporting her nieces and nephews in all of their athletic events. Survivors include a sister, Rose McCamly of Rapid City; two brothers, Lloyd Anschutz of Rapid City and Jim (Gladys) Anschutz of Wheat Ridge, Colo.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Birdie was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers and a sister. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, at the Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Relatives and friends are welcome to gather for a celebration of life at the home of Barry and Roxie Peterson, 7940 Erickson Ranch Road in Rapid City immediately following the service.
