RAPID CITY- Bernard L. "Bernie" Curl, 73, died Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Bernie was born July 19, 1938 in Wagner, SD to Allen and Edith (Engel) Curl. He was united in marriage to Verla Gould on June 11, 1960 in Custer. He worked as a plumber from 1959-2005 and was a member of the Plumbers Union for 46 years. Bernie cherished his family and put them first above all else. He loved anything outdoors, especially the family camping trips in the Black Hills. They started out in a homemade pick-up camper and progressed to a camper suitable for the whole family. Bernie was the epitome of a real man and could fix anything and was always willing to drop what he was doing to help. He gave great advice and sacrificed anything and everything for his family, especially his grandkids. Bernie also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, racing, and was a great cook. Survivors include his wife, Verla, Rapid City; two sons, Kevin (Sandy) Curl, Arvada, CO; Ragen (Shanna) Janssen, Black Hawk; two daughters, Roxanne Kursave, Rapid City; Debbie (Larry) Carden, Black Hawk; two brothers, Marvin "Bud" Curl, Caro, MI; Gary Curl, Hayward, SD; two sisters, Maxine Cole, Fairburn, SD; Karen Bland, Custer, SD; and eight grandchildren: Casey, Chandra, Kayleigh, Emaleigh, Austin, Jamiee, Shelby, and Haiden. Visitation will be from 4-7:00 pm, Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Services will be at 10:00 am, Friday, June 1, 2012 at St. Paul Lutheran Church 835 East Fairmont Blvd in Rapid City with Rev. Doug Free officiating. Interment will follow at Custer Cemetery in Custer, SD.
