Obituary

Piedmont – Bernard J. Wiehl, 89, of rural Meade County passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Fountain Springs Healthcare Center in Rapid City.

Bernard was born on February 1, 1935, in Rapid City to John and Clara (Bren) Wiehl. He was raised at the Wiehl Ranch on Elk Creek. Bernard was baptized into the Catholic faith. He attended Rapid City high school and graduated in 1953.

Bernard married Loretta Boland on June 16, 1956, at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in Rapid City. They were blessed with 3 children: Paul in 1957, Victoria in 1960, and Chris in 1960.

Bernard and Loretta lived on the Wiehl Ranch for 54 years. He loved working on the ranch and raising cattle. Bernard enjoyed dancing with his wife and had wishes to travel, however the ranch kept him occupied.

Bernard was a member of Our Lady of the Black Hills Catholic Church in Piedmont and ushered at the Saturday night mass service.

Bernard is preceded in his death by parents, John and Clara Wiehl; brothers, Francis (Betty) Wiehl, Larry Wiehl, Eugene Wiehl; and daughter Victoria Bergeron.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta Boland; sons, Paul (Shirley) Wiehl, Chris Wiehl; grandchildren, Jessica (Eric) Pickar, Kristina Bergeron, Austin Wiehl; brother, Derald (Marlys) Wiehl.

Funeral mass for Bernard will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Our Lady of the Black Hills Catholic Church in Piedmont. Luncheon will immediately follow. Burial at a later date at the Piedmont Cemetery near Piedmont.
