RAPID CITY | Bessie Mae Nye, 85, died Monday, March 31, 2014, at Sturgis Regional Senior Care. Bessie was born Nov. 16, 1928, in Oelrichs, to Earl and Celia (Strouse) Headden. She graduated from Alliance High School in 1947. Bessie attended nursing school and graduated in 1950 from St. Joseph's Hospital College of Nursing. On August 15, 1951, she was united in marriage to Bobbie W. Nye in Clarksville, TN. Survivors include three daughters, Celia (David) Weeks, Piedmont, Jolene (Mike) Townsend, Sheridan, WY, and Karen (Mark) DeBolt, Rapid City; a son, Brent (Anne) Nye, Academy; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1979, two brothers, and two sisters. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 7, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Bob Jacobs officiating. Inurnment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
