Obituary

RAPID CITY-Betty Brink, 80, of Rapid City, South Dakota passed away at Westhills Health Care on June 26, 2015. Betty was born on August 10, 1934 in Corsica, South Dakota to Herman and Minnie Menning. She graduated from Corsica High School and Springfield College. She taught rural school in Corsica and Box Elder. Betty married her high school sweetheart, Jay Brink in 1954. He was the love of her life. They were married for 60 years. They raised 3 daughters, Debra Lanning, Cindy Shagla, and Stacey Brown. They lived in Rapid City, New Jersey, California and numerous towns across the country. When they retired they spent their winters in Sun Lakes, Arizona. Betty loved being with her family, especially her 6 grandchildren. She enjoyed entertaining, cooking, shopping, her lake house, boating, she loved to tell a good story. She easily made friends everywhere she went, she will be missed by all who crossed her path. Betty was very active in her P.E.O. sororities in both Rapid City and Chandler, AZ chapters. Betty was active in First Presbyterian Church, Rapid City and Chandler Presbyterian Church, Arizona. Betty was an advocate of Habitat for Humanity and Children's Home Society. Betty is survived by her 3 daughters, Debi (Tom) Lanning, Sandy, Utah; Cindy (Jerry) Shagla, Hot Springs, SD; Stacey (Pat) Brown, Rapid City, SD; her six grandchildren, TJ (Ashley) Lanning; Alex (Jessie) Lanning; Christopher (Lindsay) Shagla; Gabe Shagla; Justin Brown; and Alana Brown; brother-in-law, Marvin Zimmerman, niece Brenda (Scott) Sinclair, mother-in-law Altha Brink, 3 brother-in-laws Doug (Ginger) Brink, Lyle Brink, and Randy (Monica) Brink; and 2 sister-in-laws, Luetta Brink, Kay (Rod) Everson, and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Jay; parents, Herman and Minnie Menning; sister, Luella Zimmerman; father-in-law Frank Brink; brother-in-law, Duane Brink; sister-in-law Gayla Brink. Visitation will be at Osheim Schmidt Funeral Home at Wednesday, July 1 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, July 2, First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jeff Kintner officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials will be contributed to Multiple Sclerosis Society.
