Obituary

RAPID CITY- Betty Ann Hall Hicks transitioned from this life into her next on Friday, December 16th, and is now at peace with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Betty was born on September 6th, 1922, in Blunt, South Dakota, to Hilda and Frank "Shine" Albers. Betty and her older brother Don spent most of their childhood in Presho, South Dakota.

In the thick of World War II, Betty decided to join Army Nurse Corp. At the age of 21, she underwent training at Mercy Hospital in Denver, and shipped out for Germany in 1944. Her time overseas as a second lieutenant was divided between France and Germany, where she experienced the full force of the war as she traveled around setting up hospitals. She never forgot her time there, and frequently entertained her grandchildren with stories from her deployment.

Upon her return to the states, Betty moved back to Philip and married Frank "Bud" Hall in 1947. They had four beautiful children: Linda, Donna, Ron, and Crystal. Together, Betty and Bud operated funeral homes in both Philip and Pierre. Betty was a talented pianist with a gifted ear for music. In Philip, she taught a studio of over 30 piano students, and played for church, programs, weddings, and funerals.

In 1987, she moved to Florida, where she enjoyed several happy years in the warmer climate with her beloved backyard tangerine tree. There she met and married Gordon Hicks. After Gordon's death, Betty moved back to Rapid City in 2003, where she enjoyed both friends and the closer proximity to her family.

The most important element of Betty's life was her strong faith in Jesus Christ, which she demonstrated through her kindhearted care for everyone around her. She was a strong spiritual influence on her entire family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hilda and Frank Albers; her brother, Don Albers; and her husband, Gordon Hicks.

She is survived by her four children: Linda Fargen (husband Tom); Donna Hall Uribe; Ron Hall (wife Barb); and Crystal Clarkson (husband Bob). Her grandchildren: Kim, Keri, Katie, Kelly, Cooper, Greg, Sara, Laura, Jess, Chris, Chad, Kinsie, Madison, Wyatt, and Ben, and her 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services are planned for next summer.

The family wishes to thank the staff and members of South Canyon Baptist Church, the physicians and nurses at Rapid City Regional Hospital, hospice, and the nurses at Westhills Village South and Health Care units for their devoted care for Betty.
