IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Betty J
Johnson
February 15, 1922 – April 10, 2017
RAPID CITY- Betty Johnson passed away Monday, April 10, 2017 at age 95 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Betty was born on February 15, 1922 to Roland and Della (Wineteer) DeHart in Lincoln, Nebraska. She grew up during the great depression. She met and married her first husband Robert Marcoe and had children: Nancy Ann (deceased), Robin, and Benjamin.
Betty then moved to Rapid City where she became divorced from Robert Marcoe. She met and married Darrell Johnson; later having her fourth child Tracy.
Betty was a devoted homemaker who became very active in the Seventh Day Adventist Church, teaching Sabbath School and doing church sponsored charity programs.
Betty was a talented seamstress, making clothing for her children and grandchildren. She delighted in making stuffed toys, dolls and doll clothes for her children.
Betty was an avid reader and a student of history. She delighted in biographies of our presidents and other leaders. This became her late life passion. Ironically, she lost her vision, and could no longer read. Audio books kept her intellectual interests alive to the end.
Betty experienced many of life's setbacks, but through it all she never blamed God. She accepted what came to her with courage and re-dedication.
She will be sorely missed by her family and all those who knew her.
Preceding her in death was her first child, Nancy Ann.
She is survived by her children Robin (Eileen) Marcoe, Montrose, CO; Benjamin (Christine) Marcoe, Montrose, CO; and Tracy (Les) Leat, Gillette, WY; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 14, 2017 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 4703 S. Canyon Road in Rapid City with Pastor Darren Purdy officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to services.
