Betty Lou Bissenden Wirshing Lanouette, age 88 of Gillette, formerly of Rapid City, died Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the Legacy Health Care Facility in Gillette WY.
Betty was born, third of four children, on July 8, 1929 to Stanley Arthur Bernard Bissenden and Scena M. (Jones) Bissenden in Deadwood SD. The family moved to Rapid City SD in 1931. Betty attended schools in Rapid City.
Betty worked as a nurse's aide at Bennett Clarkson Hospital for a number of years. Her life was devoted to her family. She enjoyed crafting, including crocheting and sewing. Betty moved to Gillette in 2002 to be closer to family. She moved to the Pioneer Manor in Gillette in 2010 and was excited to move to the new Legacy Health Care Facility where she had a beautiful private room. Everyone who knew her will remember her smile and the joy she got from riding her "Pink Cadillac" electric cart.
She married Frank Wayne Wirshing, June 1949 in Rapid City. They had two children together. They divorced October, 1962. She married Wallace Lanouette in Rapid City July 1971.
Survivors include her son, Rod (Ellen) Wirshing Lolo Montana, her daughter, Linda (Mike) Wipf Gillette Wyoming, stepchildren, Sandy Sweet, Spearfish SD, Linda (Randy) Johnson, Raeford NC, Terry (Dan) Drummond, Brandon SD, Barbara (David) Joseph Lancaster CA, Joyce Lanouette Avondale AZ, Mary Hughes Phoenix AZ, Bob Lanouette Avondale AZ, 7 grandchildren, 12 step grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 25 great step grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter, her sister, Peggie Halvorson, Rapid City and her brother, Frank (Lorene) Bissenden, Rapid City. 1 niece and 2 nephews.
She is preceded in death by her 1st husband, Frank Wayne Wirshing, husband, Wallace Lanouette, Father, Stanley Bissenden, Mother, Scena Bissenden Peck, Stepfather, Emmett Peck, Brother, Arthur Bissenden, Sister in law, Helen Bissenden, Brother-in-law Archie Halvorson, Stepdaughter, Nancy Lanouette, Nephew, Larry Bissenden, and Niece, Nancy Bissenden.
A service will be held at 10:00, on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Viewing will be one hour before the service. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
A memorial has been established to Story Book Island in lieu of flowers.
