Betty L (Lien) Ohlrogge, age 81 passed away on June 26, 2016 at the Golden living Center in Lake Norden.SD; under the care of Watertown Hospice.
Betty (Lien ) Ohlrogge was born September 24, 1934 in Kennebec, SD to Iver and Enger (Swenson) Lien. Betty and her sister Ila and Mother lived In Kennebec , SD, till 1943 when they moved to Chamberlain, SD.
Betty married Duane H. Ohlrogge on October 19, 1952. They moved to Pukwana and later moved t o Brentford , just outside of Chamberlain, to work on a farm. Betty was a telephone operator in Chamberlain until 1953, when their first child Cathy, was born. Together they all lived in Brentford, where Betty cooked for 25 farm hands. Their second child Mike was born in 1956; in 1957 they moved back to Chamberlain. Denise was born in 1958 and Anita was born in 1960 and in 1965, Betty and Duane had their last child, Michele. Duane started to work for the South Dakota Fish and Game until 1963 when he bought his truck. During this time they had an opportunity to move to the Black Hills to haul livestock. At that time they joined the Black Hills Egg Producers, in which they had many chickens for eggs. In 1976 they then sold their permit to haul livestock. After they sold their permit, they went and worked for Samons Trucking located out of Missoula, MT. Betty drove truck with Duane from 1972 till 1982.
Betty then started to raise dogs to sell; she started and owned Lucky Ridge Kennels. There she bred English settlers, and then switched to English Cockers. Mom had a Canadian American Champion and an American Champion. She also went on to raise shelties. Both Betty and Duane loved their dogs and took great pride in raising their dogs. Betty not only bred dogs but she also taught obedience class and won lots of the events in which she entered.
Betty is survived by her best friend and soul mate Duane Ohlrogge , Her sister, Ila Fenenga, who was her best friend, those two were also very close. Her five children, Cathy Hemsher, Mike Ohlrogge, Denise Cayton, Anita Ohlrogge and Michele Acre, 12 grandchildren , 26 great grandchildren , l great- great grandchild and lots of nieces and nephews.
Betty is preceded in death by 3 grandsons, Brian Ohlrogge, Aaron Cayton, and James Hemsher, her mother Enger Gram, her brothers; George Lien, Manvil Lien and Earl Lien. She is deeply loved and will be missed by all her children and grandchildren .
