Obituary

Beverly Iona Davis Ellingson Perrine of North Bend, Washington, passed away peacefully with family at her side on May 3, 2015. She will be missed not only by her family but by the many friends and medical staff that supported her over the past several years. She was born March 16, 1923 to Ernest and Julia Davis in Flandreau, South Dakota. She was the youngest of three children. She graduated from Ramona High School in 1940 and shortly after married Herman Ellingson, with whom she had a son, Ronald. After divorcing, she and Ron lived together in Flandreau where she worked as a dime store clerk and in the Red Owl meat department. In 1944 they moved to Auburn, Washington, where she worked as a railroad clerk. She moved back to eastern South Dakota after about a year and eventually went to school in Minneapolis for teletype and to become an FAA Air Traffic Controller. From 1950-1955 she lived in Flandreau, South Dakota and was a bookkeeper at Farmer's State Bank, the career she pursued into the future. In 1956 she and Ron moved to Rapid City, South Dakota, where she was a bookkeeper at Dakota State Bank. In addition, she owned a beauty salon and did bookkeeping work for the dog track at night. In the early 1960's, she worked for Dean & Gross Stock Brokers as well as the dog track. Bev worked as a bookkeeper and in retail sales until retiring in the late 1970's. She married Walter R. Perrine in 1959 and they had two children; Michelle and Terril. Walt and Bev moved to Bismarck, North Dakota in 1980 returning to Rapid City six years later to retire. Bev and Walt enjoyed a wonderful life together until he passed away in 2004. They enjoyed dancing at the Elks Club and time spent with their dance club. Bev enjoyed gardening and was a wonderful seamstress, making numerous quilts including hundreds for victims of hurricane Katrina. She moved to North Bend, Washington in 2010 to be closer to two of her children in the twilight of her life. Bev was known to be very independent, hard working, with a quick and dry wit, and she was always in change. She was an outstanding role model for her children. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Vincent and Merville, husband Walter and son Ronald. She is survived by daughter-in-law Beverly, daughter Michelle, son Terril (Karen), grandchildren Stacie, Steve, Connor, Haley, and Cody, and great grandchildren Madelyn, Adam, Seth, Ethan, Grace and Lily. Services will be held at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home in Rapid City, SD on Friday May 15, 2015, at 12:30 p.m. with burial at Black Hills National Cemetery immediately following.
