Obituary

Blanche F. Messer, 84, of Rapid City, died Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the home of her daughter in Faulkton following a several month illness. A prayer service will be at 7:00p.m., Tuesday, March 15, 7 p.m. at Luce Funeral Home, Faulkton with Pastor Tammy Craker officiating. Funeral services will be at 10:00a.m. MDT, Thursday, March 17 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Rapid City with Pastor Wilbur Holz officiating. Blanche Iola Floden was born Nov. 3, 1926 at Hoover the daughter of Jens O. and Clara B. (Karlson) Floden. She grew up on their ranch in Butte County. Blanche was confirmed on June 29, 1941 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Zeona. In 1944 she graduated from Nisland High School as class salutatorian. Blanche attended two years of business college in Rapid City and began working at Montana-Dakota Utilities. She then moved to Washington State and started working at Hanford Works Atomic Energy near Richland. On April 2, 1952 she married Marvin L. Messer at Coeur dAlene, Idaho. In 1962 the family moved to Rapid City. She worked at various jobs including Boeing, the Rapid City Gasification Plant and Brink Electrical Construction, retiring in 1988. She was active in her church, Trinity Lutheran, the V.F.W. Auxiliary #1273 where she held all of the elective offices including president and district president, Canyon Lake Senior Citizens, BPOE Does and The Sons of Norway. The chapel across from Black Hills National Cemetery was completed while she was District 10 V.F.W. Auxiliary President. Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Marv Messer of Rapid City; daughter Jody (Jim) Moritz of Faulkton; two grandsons, Garrick (Carrie) Moritz of Rock Rapids, Iowa, and Paul Moritz of Fargo, N.D.; one great-granddaughter, Morgan Moritz; one brother, Jennings (Shirley) Floden of Rapid City; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Kermit (Kurt), and an infant daughter, Karen Lee.
