Obituary

Bobbie Dean Collins, 81, of Rapid City, South Dakota, died Friday, July 20 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Bob was born December 19, 1930 in Rapid City to Sam and Esther Collins. He attended Rapid City High School where he participated in sports and graduated in 1949. He attended South Dakota State before serving in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean War. Bob graduated from Black Hills State College with a degree in education. On November 24, 1956, Bob married Delores Robeson in Rapid City. The couple lived in Rapid City, where both were teachers in the Rapid City Public Schools. Bob taught at South Junior High School for 31 years, where he also coached football, basketball, and track and field. Bob also coached his boys' Little League baseball teams. Bob was a member of the Elks Lodge 1187 in Rapid City, where he was an active golfer for many years. Every spring he looked forward to the start of golf season and his regular Monday and Wednesday golf group. Bob and Delores loved playing in couples tournaments at the Elks golf course and throughout the Black Hills. Bob was a regular at cardiac rehab, and he greatly enjoyed the personal friendships he and Delores made there. Survivors include his loving wife, Delores Collins, of Rapid City; his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Lisa Collins and their two boys, A.J. and Drew, of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; his son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Mandy Collins and their two children, Lauren and Blake, of Sioux Falls; his sister Joyce Bohrer Blayney, of Champaign, Illinois; his sister-in-law Glenda Kendrick, of Alexandria, Virginia; and several beloved nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5 to 7p.m. on Monday, July 23 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home in Rapid City. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 24 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rapid City. Interment with military honors provided by the Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and the South Dakota National Guard will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made to the Lori Thiel Simpson Scholarship at the University of South Dakota.
