RAPID CITY- Bonnee Kinsella passed away on February 1, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in New Underwood, SD at age 96. The indomitable Bonnee Marie Heller Kinsella was born on November 12, 1916 in Lake Benton, MN. She was married on July 15, 1940 and moved to Rapid City in 1950. She obtained her teaching degree at Black Hills State University in 1965. Second graders at Our Lady of Perpetual Help and Robbinsdale Elementary enjoyed her teaching talents for 23 years until she retired at age 67. The Alpha Delta Kappa Teaching Sorority invited her to become a member of its exclusive, invitation only organization dedicated to the promotion of educational excellence. After retiring, she began work with the Literacy Council of the Black Hills where she worked with children and adults with dyslexia and learning difficulties until she was 94. She was a board member of the West River Women Against Violence (WAVI). She taught infant and toddler swimming at the YMCA for over twenty five years until age 94. Children, whom she taught to swim, also brought their children to her for lessons. She is survived by a brother, Terry Heller, Des Moines, IA; 5 children, Tom Kinsella, Estero, FL; Ann Van Loan, Rapid City; Dan Kinsella, Bismarck, ND; Colleen Kinsella, Hermosa; and Jim Kinsella, New Underwood; 26 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Commerford. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at Blessed Sacrament Church, with a Christian wake service at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at the church, with the Rev. Brian Lane officiating. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
