Bret Michael Klopp, age 33, of Rapid City, SD, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.

Bret was born May 3, 1990 in Missoula, MT, the second son of Todd and Brenda (Strumness) Klopp. He spent the better part of his childhood in Wrightstown, WI where he honed his wrestling skills. After moving to Lander, WY, he won the state wrestling championship his junior and senior year and was named High School All-American in 2009.

Bret attended Duke University where he briefly studied Psychology and wrestled before transferring to Chadron State College in Nebraska to pursue a degree in teaching. He wrestled at the collegiate level until 2013, but still retained a passion for the sport until his passing.

While attending Chadron full time he worked part time at Walmart, where he met his future wife, Chelsea (Rugg).  They were married on June 7, 2016 in Rapid City. A year later, Bret earned his Bachelor's degree in Math Education with a Certificate in Coaching.

2017 was a special year for Bret, as he welcomed his first child before embarking upon his career in math education. His seven-year career saw him at three different schools, teaching many different grades before settling in at Rapid City Central High School. His true love for education and sharing of knowledge showed through his students.

In addition to wrestling and education, Bret loved playing video games, reading manga, and watching anime, movies, and various TV shows. He also enjoyed singing, preferring songs from popular musicals, and even performed live on several occasions.

Bret is survived by his wife, Chelsea; son, Oliver (6); daughters, Abigail (4) and Emery (1); parents Todd (Brenda) Klopp of Spearfish, SD; brothers Cody (Jacqui) Klopp of Kearney, NE, and Alex (Ceri) Klopp of Omaha, NE; as well as a nephew and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 11, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

His funeral service will be held on Friday, April 12, at 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home.

Bret will be laid to rest privately at Mountain View Cemetery.
