Bret Earl Wilson, 57, of Rapid City, SD, passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at The Monument Hospice House in Rapid City.
A Celebration of Life Services will commence at Noon on March 2nd at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center on Canyon Lake Drive in Rapid City, SD with Interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery on Sheridan Lake Road.
Bret Earl Wilson was born March 23, 1966 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Roger R. Wilson and Carol Irene Tassie. He was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, attended elementary school in Centerfield (now West Valley City), Utah until 1974,when Bret's family relocated from SLC to Pierre, SD. Bret was involved with Boy Scouts, Little League Baseball, received the Aaronic Priesthood through his church, had many piano recitals, a plethora of friends, and graduated High School at T.F. Riggs High School in 1984. Bret also worked at his father's video store and worked alongside his older brother Randy, at his construction company.
In August of 1989, Bret married Lori Warriner in Pierre, SD. To this union was born Kelsey Amanda and Kory James. Bret joined the U.S. Navy in 1987 and was honorably discharged upon fulfilling his commitment. In 2010, Bret signed up as a Security Contractor in Basra Iraq and returned home after the completion of his tour in late 2011.
In 2019, Bret moved to Rapid City to be with the love of his life, Stacy Kellogg Renville. They recently adopted Clover, their King Charles Spaniel. Bret and Stacy enjoyed spending as much time with his mother as possible before her passing in 2021, especially playing their weekly card game. He also enjoyed watching his Green Bay Packers during football season, fishing when possible, and taking nice long walks with Stacy and Clover. Bret loved his family very much. He was overjoyed when his grandson, Oakden Wilson was born, and even though there was a long distance between them, he loved seeing pictures that were shared on Facebook, he was a very proud grandfather.
Bret is survived by his special love Stacy, his children: Kelsey (Aaron) Trimble of Rapid City, SD and Kory (Lauren) Wilson of Poulsbo, WA. One grandchild, Oakden Wilson. Siblings: Michell (Steve) Harwarth of Mound, MN, Randy (Bev) Wilson of Pierre, SD, Darcey (Clarence) Gunderson of Rapid City, SD, and Wendy (Ted) Backlund of Rapid City, SD. With three Aunts, one Uncle, and many cousins scattered across the globe.
Bret was preceded in death by his mother Carol, father Roger, grandparents LaVern Wilson, Roland Ruffner, and Floyd and Dorothy Tassie, several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
