Brett Hyde, 51, Rapid City, SD, passed away Sunday, December 14, 2025, at his home from a stroke.

Brett was born August 12, 1974 in Wichita, KS, the oldest child of Darwin and Kay (Zarecky) Hyde.

Being the son of a career Air Force member, he was able to live in several locations including: Kansas, Germany, Minnesota, Hawaii, and North Dakota. Brett moved to Colorado after high school where he married Shawna Eckstrom and they had their son Fletcher Ray Hyde.

Brett experienced his first stroke in 2013 while visiting North Dakota. After 10 years and a divorce he moved to South Dakota where he made huge improvements; getting his driver's license, a car, a job and apartment. A huge supporter in his life and recovery was Emily Gunn whom Brett loved dearly. Brett was always with a positive attitude and smile. He enjoyed meeting new friends.

Survivors include son, Fletcher Ray Hyde of Denver, Colorado, sister Jan (Rob) Woodruff of Rapid City, nieces Isla and Emilia Woodruff of Rapid City, SD as well as numerous relatives on the Hyde and Zarecky sides.

As per his request, Brett was cremated and a celebration of life will be held at a future family gathering. Rest in Peace, Brett.
