RAPID CITY- Arthur "Bruce" Conrad, 82, passed away September 25, 2020 in Rapid City, SD. He battled Parkinson's disease for the last 15 years of his life; however, he died of COVID-19 at Fountain Springs Healthcare Center. Bruce was born in Rapid City on August 17, 1938 to J. Platt and Mary Florence Conrad. The family moved to Brookings, SD in 1940, then back to Rapid City in 1952.
Bruce graduated from Cathedral High School in 1958. He served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1961. Once he returned home, he began working for his father at Conrad's Refrigeration. Bruce and Mary Czapskie married in 1964 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help where they would be members for their 56 years of marriage. He later worked for Brown Swiss Dairy as a refrigeration mechanic, followed by D&R Service. He finished his career at Gillette Dairy in August 2000.
Fishing, hunting, and camping were Bruce's favorite things to do and he took great pride in his gardening. He was devoted to his family and grandkids, attending and supporting them in many activities. Bruce and Mary also enjoyed traveling, visiting many states and several countries.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Mary and his five children; Deanne Church (Kevin), Mary Jo Peiman (James), both of Lincoln, NE; Daniel Conrad (Wendy), Christie Johnson (Al), and Amber Steen (Kane) of Rapid City. He will be greatly missed and remembered by his 16 grandchildren; Jakob, Kari, Alex, Ashton, Jackson, Angel, Molly, Mary Anne, Charles, George, Isabelle, Emma, Michael, Ella, Dexter, and Brixton; two great-grandchildren; Easton and Leighton and one on the way. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Philip; and great-grandson, Carson Peiman
Visitation will be from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 28, 2020 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with a Christian Wake Service and rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Private Christian Funeral Mass will be offered at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Mass will be private family only.
Interment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with full military honors rendered by the Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and the South Dakota Army National Guard.
A memorial has been established for Parkinson's Research through the Parkinson's Foundation in Bruce's name.
