Black Hawk – Bruce W. Fodness, 70, died Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital as a result of a truck accident near Sturgis, SD. Bruce was a 38 year employee of Pete Lien and Sons in Rapid City.

His Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be 10:00 am Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

Burial will take place approximately 11:00 am at Valley View Cemetery in Black Hawk, SD.

Bruce W. Fodness passed away on August 16, 2023.  Bruce was born in Sioux Falls, SD December 7, 1952 to Lloyd and Annetta Fodness.  Bruce grew up near Lennox, SD, graduating from Lennox High School in 1971.

Bruce worked for Kuper Feed in Lennox following graduation.  After that he was employed by Morton Buildings in both Tea and Rapid City.  He also worked for Stubsten Trucking for a short time.  He moved to Scotts Bluff , Nebraska in 1981 and worked for Dill Implement.  In 1985, he moved back to Rapid City and began working for Birdsall Sand and Gravel which later became Pete Lien & Sons, Inc.  During his 38 years of employment with Pete Lien & Sons, he became an indispensable employee with extensive knowledge of the operation.  His co-workers became a part of his "family".  His commitment to his job and his work ethic were exemplary.

He loved to read, and had a great fondness for Pepsi and chocolate.

He took great pride in his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and his pick-up trucks.

Bruce is survived by his mother, Annetta; siblings Pam, Loyanne, Keith, and Peggy, and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, special friends Loren and Marjean and Jim and Connie.

Bruce was preceded in death by his infant sister, Laurette and his father, Lloyd.
